As the current school year comes to a close in Manitowoc, top administration officials are looking ahead to transition to a new grade realignment plan. It will move 9th graders to Lincoln High School, 6th graders to Washington & Wilson Junior Highs and kindergartners’ to neighborhood schools. Students at Stangel School to the current Riverview Early Learning Center, which becomes a 4K through 5 elementary School and those students at McKinley Academy will go to Stangel next year. SeehaferNews.com spoke with MPSD Superintendent Mark Holzman, who told us they’re in a so-called hiring season. “We’re replacing those teachers who are retiring and there are some openings we have to fill,” Holzman explained. “I feel comfortable that our HR department and building principals are doing a great job in filling those roles.”
Holzman said the biggest challenge for the district moving forward, is “Making sure our kids have a great end of the school year and the moving transitions. Just the physical boxes that go from building A to building B.”
The superintendent said they have a plan, but it’s very tight. Lincoln’s traditional outdoor graduation is Friday, June 7th with trucks and people ready to start moving for 2019-2020, only 3 days later. Meanwhile, Holzman said the Board of Education this week approved the hiring of Katherine Eichmann as the new Assistant Principal, effective July 1st, at Lincoln High School. Eichmann, who is currently a program support teacher for special education students, has worked in the school district for 12-years. She replaces Lance Masters, who moves to Washington Middle School to serve as principal.
