The man arrested for firing a gun in downtown Manitowoc has been released on bond. 23-year-old Lawrence Washington appeared in Circuit Court in Manitowoc today and bail was set at $2,000 recognizance bond. Conditions of bail are that Washington possess no firearms or ammunition, maintain absolute sobriety, and have no contact with Exoticas, the club where the offense occurred outside of.
The police complaint said officers responded to the scene when they heard gunshots while making a traffic stop nearby in the early hours of Saturday morning. Washington was arrested and police say he confessed firing six or seven shots from a handgun. He said he did that because a woman was being beaten and he was concerned for her welfare, so he fired into the air in an attempt to stop the fighting.
