A senior student-athlete at Lincoln High School received the I AM SPORT award Wednesday night at the Performing Arts Center in Appleton. Massendra Musial was the recipient of the honor during the Wisconsin High School Sports Award program, sponsored by USA TODAY NETWORK. Her mother, Sarah Musial, tells Seehafer News that Massendra being selected the winner was both, very special, and a great surprise. Musial explained that the award is given to a student-athlete that goes above and beyond the sport that they play and gives back to the youth in their community. Massendra was one of 24 students nominated. Voting started on January 22nd and ended March 5th when Massendra was announced as one of the 3 finalists.
Sarah says her daughter loves to be involved and keep busy. “She does a lot of volunteering, currently she’s working 3 different jobs plus going to school full time. She has a strong faith background and I really believe that’s what made her stand out. She’s a very good kid.”
Massendra also had a chance to meet, visit with and have her picture taken with Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps after the trophy presentation. Massendra Musial will graduate in June from Lincoln and plans to attend UW-Madison in the Fall. She will major in Biology before entering the Pre-Med program.
