An unidentified male is in custody facing several charges in connection to a church fire in Allouez. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office Says the suspect has been transported to the County Jail and is being referred On charges of burglary, arson and criminal damage to property. Green Bay Metro Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a fire alarm around 1:45 this morning at St. Matthew School at 2575 South Webster Avenue. Upon Arrival, crews found heavy smoke and a broken window on the north side of the chapel. It’s believed that a Bible and paperwork was set on fire in an entry area of the chapel which was quickly extinguished. Other damage included a broken window and smoke damage. Law enforcement didn’t locate anyone inside. At about 3:40 this morning a homeowner in the area called in a suspicious male who was soaking wet ringing his doorbell. The suspect fled on foot via the Fox River Trail and was taken into custody shortly afterward without incident. Damage is estimated at $15 thousand and his name is not being released until formal charges are filed.
