The Milwaukee Brewers dropped a 5-2 decision at New York against the Mets, but a bigger loss could come if a sore back keeps National League M-V-P sidelined. Christian Yelich pulled up short on a stolen base attempt and had to leave Sunday’s contest. A two-run homer by Mike Moustakas accounted for all Milwaukee runs. Lefty Gio Gonzalez gave up a pair of runs in five innings during his first Brewers start. Milwaukee opens a 10-game homestand Monday night against the Colorado Rockies.
Nineteen months after he was seriously injured, the comeback attempt by Milwaukee pitcher Jimmy Nelson is on hold once again. Nelson was supposed to make his first start at Triple-A San Antonio Sunday, but he rushed to Houston to be with his wife for the premature birth of twin daughters. The 29-year-old right-hander has been working in extended spring training to build up his injured shoulder. The Brewers say his rehab assignment is on hold until further notice.
