Now that we know who won the record Powerball jackpot in Wisconsin, Republican lawmakers are introducing legislation to allow prize winners to remain anonymous. Speaker Robin Vos and Representative Gary Tauchen are sponsoring the Lottery Privacy Act. Vos said, “the government shouldn’t force lottery winners to come forward publicly if they don’t want to.” The bill prohibits the Department of Revenue, lottery administrators and the retailer who sold the ticket from disclosing the lottery prize winner’s name. The location of the ticket sale will continue to be made public. The bill will be introduced in the Wisconsin Assembly in the coming weeks.
