A grant of 300-thousand dollars from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services will jump-start the nation’s first home for veterans run by other veterans. The non-profit Mental Health America of Wisconsin is looking for a location in the Milwaukee area. The home won’t provide clinical services, but staff members will serve as peer counselors and will be trained to deal with post-traumatic stress disorder. Veterans will be able to stay for free for up to five nights.
