Whether its junior Jack Coan or freshman standout Graham Mertz, the Wisconsin Badgers have to get more production out of their passing game. Only 11 major college football teams passed for fewer yards than Wisconsin last season, a little under 158 yards-a-game. U-S-A Today is predicting Mertz will become the rare true freshman to start for the Badgers in the season ahead. Coan had mixed results when he filled in for Alex Hornibrook last season, but Wisconsin players are saying he’s showing a lot more maturity during the spring practices this month.
