For the first time since 1983 a Great Lakes bulk carrier will be built in Sturgeon Bay. Work on the 639-foot ship is expected to begin this fall. The Interlake Steamship Company is working with Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding on the ambitious project. The new River-Class self-unloading bulk career will become the first ship built on the Great Lakes to service the Great Lakes in 37 years. It will transport raw materials for manufacturing efforts throughout the region.
