For quite some time, people have been waiting for the Manitowoc Meijer store to be built just off of Calumet Avenue. The project was put on hold for a while, and many citizens of Manitowoc began to question if it was going to happen at all. We spoke with Mayor Justin Nickels earlier this week, and he had some good news.
The mayor also said that it is expected to be completed in about a year. He is also very excited for the upcoming opening of Strand Adventures, which will be ready to go by May 1st.
If Mike Howe and his investors had not bought the former Strand Theater, Mayor Nickels said it likely would have been demolished.
