It is spring cleaning time, and the City of Manitowoc is asking for the public’s help in cleaning up Evergreen Cemetery. The Cemetery Division is asking for your help in clearing all winter decorations from any grave sites that you are maintaining in order to help maintain the Cemetary’s park like beauty. Any items not removed by the April 15th deadline will be disposed of by cemetery staff. Some other rules to keep in mind include that new decorations can be placed anytime after May 15th, however no flowers that have thorns, thistles of burs are allowed, nor are perennials. Also, according to the City of Manitowoc Cemetery Division, annual flowers can be planted in baskets, urns, or in a flowerbed, but any flowers not planted for three consecutive years will be removed. Fences, above ground edging, gravel, lava stone, shredded bark, or similar materials are not allowed on grave sites either. People are asked to stay away from decorating the sites with any decorations that are made of glass, or can shatter easily. Solar lights are allowed, but only two per site will be permitted. If you plan on putting any flags in the ground, they must be at least 12” above ground level.
