Only a few weeks removed from the winter parking ban, citizens of Manitowoc must now be aware that the street sweeping parking ban will begin on Monday, April 1. Seehafer News was able to speak with Chad Scheinoha, the Operations Division Manager for the City of Manitowoc, and he explained that street sweeping is important because “…all the curb lines and streets in the city flow to our lakes and rivers.” According to Chad, our fresh water system “takes up about 20% of the world’s fresh water” so “it’s very important that we get everything off the roads before it gets to those lakes and rivers.”
He also explained that the parking ban is in place so the sweepers can collect all the debris. ”The majority of the debris, the solids, the oils, all that kinda stuff makes its way to the edge of the roadway in the gutter line, or the curb line,” he told us. “So, in order to get that material picked up, we need to have the cars moved.”
The City of Manitowoc asks that cars not be parked on the roadway between 3:00-6:00 AM Monday through Friday. As of now, warnings are being issued around the city, so if you see a pink slip on your car, Scheinoha explained that it is just a warning, informing you of the upcoming ban. After April 1st, the warnings will turn into parking tickets.
