Governor Tony Evers will reopen the Pardons Board after receiving more than one-thousand messages. That board was disbanded under Republican Governor Scott Walker, who said the justice system was the most appropriate way to handle sentences. Governor Evers has said he sees pardons as a way to makes changes to Wisconsin’s criminal justice system. Governors of both parties had issued hundreds of pardons before Walker took office.
