
We have received more results from the Special Olympics Basketball tournament from earlier this month. The Manitowoc County Miracles Comets basketball team competed at the Sectional Special Olympics tournament in Stevens Point Sunday, March 17th. They defeated the Monona Grove Blue Eagles the first game with a score of 37 – 15. The team was led by Mike Pribek with 20 points, followed by 4 points from Becky Kummer, 3 points from Maggie Remiker, and 2 points each from Sara Bensfield, Jeff Bocock, Sara Schuh, Marsha Schwoerer and Oliver Schultz. They succumbed to the Platteville Shooters the second game, 12 – 40. Marsha Schwoerer led the team with 4 points, followed by 2 points each from Sara Bensfield, Mike Pribek, Maggie Remiker and Simon Schultz. The Comets will be moving on to the State competition April 6-7 in Oshkosh.
The Manitowoc county miracles Rebels took part in the team basketball sectional tournament in Stevens Point. In Game #1 the Rebels took on the Verona Wildcats the Rebels won that very hard fought game 30 – 24. Leading the Rebels was Dakota Wellner with 18 and Travis Boettcher with 12 points. In game #2 the Rebels faced the Wausau Wolf Pack for the championship. Again this was a very hard fought defensive game. The Rebels lost this game 26 – 36. Leading the Rebels was Wellner with 19, James Spoentgen with 2 Boettcher with 3, and Gerald Gauthier 2. The lost gave the Rebels a 2nd place finish and the chance to enter the lottery drawing for a chance to advance to the state tournament in Oshkosh on April 6 & 7. When the lottery was drawn the Rebels ticket was picked giving them the chance to advance to the state tournament in Oshkosh.
