As a safety precaution, the City of Manitowoc closed Delta St. between N. Rapids Rd. and North 44th St. on Tuesday evening due to water ponding in the low point of the roadway. Due to the higher water levels in the river, the water is backing up into the storm sewer system that serves this area. The water level has receded slightly since last night. The elevations of the low points on Conroe St. and Ellis St. are higher than Delta St. The city does not expect impacts on those two streets unless the river elevation continues to increase. The higher water level is a result of the ice jams and backed up water in the Manitowoc River. The ice jam is currently occurring around the big bend in the river to the southeast of the Rapids Bridge Construction project.
City personnel have been monitoring the situation and will continue to do so until there are no longer any safety concerns.
