Details have been released around the fire at an apartment in Appleton this morning. Crews were sent to the corner of North Appleton and West Washington Street at around 2:15 AM to battle a fire that was engulfing a two story building. The structure is home to Author’s Kitchen + Bar on the first floor, and several apartments on the second floor. Firefighters saw smoke on the second and first floors, along with the smell of natural gas in the kitchen of Author’s. This forced the crews to battle the fire from outside the building. Ladder trucks were used to pour water on the fire from above in an attempt to save the surrounding buildings. All eight residents of the apartments were able to escape safely. Despite the smell of gas, the exact cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
