Federal grants should cover the 50-million dollar cost of security for next year’s Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee. Planning had already started before the party made its final decision about holding the huge event in Wisconsin. Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales says the security effort will be “all hands on deck,” with his department working with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, plus state and federal law enforcement partners. If Congress doesn’t approve the grant money, Milwaukee will have to pay the tab. Milwaukee beat out Miami and Houston, becoming one of the smallest cities to ever host such a big event. Former Republican Governor Scott Walker says Milwaukee is a perfect location for the Democratic National Convention, adding its a “great thing for the city and the state.” He also stated that having the convention in Wisconsin may motivate Republicans who might have been complacent about President Trump’s run for reelection.
