Wisconsin Democrats are celebrating today’s announcement that Milwaukee is the site of the 2020 Democratic National Convention (Monday). They will pick their nominee for president at the new Fiserv Forum next July. Wisconsin Party Chair Martha Lanning said, “we couldn’t be more thrilled that the D-N-C has chosen Milwaukee to host its 2020 convention.” Mayor Tom Barrett said in a statement that “Milwaukee is a first-class city, and we are ready to showcase Milwaukee on one of the largest stages in the world.” The event is expected to bring hundreds of millions of tourism dollars to Wisconsin and showcase its largest city. Milwaukee beat out Houston and Miami Beach. The D-N-C says this is the first time the Democratic Party has held its national convention in the Midwest outside of Chicago since 1916.
