Great Lakes advocacy groups are in Washington this week lobbying Congress for more money. The coalition of organizations in the Great Lakes region is asking for eight-point-six-billion dollars in federal funding. The group of 100 representatives is also asking for 300-million dollars for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. The money would go for water quality issues like toxic pollution cleanups and the battle against invasive species. The eight-point-six billion dollar figure is three times the current funding level.
