A judge in Chippewa County Circuit Court has determined a 10-year-old girl isn’t competent to stand trial for causing the death of an infant. Two psychologists offered testimony during a Tuesday hearing. The girl is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the October death of six-month-old Jaxon Hunter. The court refers to the girl by the initials A-F. She was wearing handcuffs as she entered the courtroom and during the hearing was seen coloring in a unicorn-themed coloring book.
The incident occurred on October 30 at a licensed home daycare where the 10-year-old was being fostered. She was playing outside with other children when she went inside, picked up the baby and dropped him. Authorities say the 10-year-old admitted to stomping on the baby’s head when he would not stop crying. Jaxon died 2 days later.
