Another $1000 has been pledged for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) who shot a bald eagle near Mishicot on or about December 7th of last year. Secretary of the Manitowoc County Fish and Game Protective Association Dean Halverson says this brings the total reward to $2000, with the pledge by Don Kiel in memory of his late father-in-law Andy Endries.
Private landowners called in the initial report of the injured bird off Randolph Street. The eagle flew away and was spotted at a nearby property the following day and rescued by Wildlife of Wisconsin. It was then taken to a nearby Manitowoc County facility for treatment where it died from its injuries. An examination determined the eagle had injuries consistent with being shot and may have been feeding at one of the nearby rivers prior to being shot.
Halverson adds that “Our clubs and organizations take this incident very seriously. We want to make a statement that groups like ours have worked for over 100 years to protect this area and we will not accept this type of behavior here.” Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation must call Crime Stoppers at 683-4466 to be eligible for the cash reward.
