The American Red Cross has what it calls a severe shortage of type-O blood and urges donors of that blood type, as well as eligible blood & platelet donors of all types, to give now to ensure lifesaving patient care isn’t impacted this winter. Type-O blood is the most in demand, helping patients facing life-threatening conditions and emergencies, every day. As of yesterday, the Red Cross had less than a 3-day supply of most blood types, and blood donations are being distributed to hospitals faster-than-donations are coming in. To make an appointment visit RedCrossBlood.org or, by call 1-800-RED CROSS.
Upcoming blood donation opportunities locally include one here in Manitowoc, on Monday, March 11th from 1-5 pm at Shoreline Credit Union, 4400 Calumet Avenue. Another blood giving opportunity is on Friday, March 15th between 2:00 & 6:30 at St. John’s School in Maribel & finally Wednesday, March 20th from 9-2 at Two Rivers High School.
