Mrs. Stancliffe, played by Mary Kaufmann and Henry Mitchell, played by Paul Hacker
The Masquers play for fun in their next production, “Sex Please, We’re Sixty,” Feb. 21, 22 and 23 at the Capitol Civic Centre in Manitowoc.
The play, written by Michael and Susan Parker, is described as an American farce with clean comedy, plenty of laughs and innuendo, and a bit of libido. And, according to first-time director Tim Brey, “It’s a very pleasing type of show to cut my directorial teeth on.”
The play centers on Mrs. Stancliffe, a very proper B and B owner; her relentless—and unsuccessful suitor, Henry; three B and B guests; and Mrs. Stancliffe’s neighbor, “Bud the Stud,” who shamelessly pursues the guests. Henry develops a magic pill to boost the love interests of the middle-aged women, and hilarity ensues with unpredictable results.
According to Brey, this play may not be of interest to younger people due to the subject matter; however, he emphasized, the play is neither vulgar nor crude. “With adult themes, there is a lot of innuendoes; but at the same time it is not raunchy with senseless, sexual or toilet humor and the script isn’t geared that way,” he said. “It’s a Masquers’ show…we don’t go down that road.”
The road they do go down, however, is paved with laughter. “There’s plenty of funny stuff throughout the whole show to keep the audience laughing and entertained,” Brey said.
The Masquers present “Sex Please, We’re Sixty,” on Feb. 21, 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Capitol Civic Centre in Manitowoc. For tickets visit www.cccshows.org or visit the Capitol Box Office.
