Wisconsin stores like Menards and Home Depot are having to turn away customers looking for salt to melt the ice and snow covering driveways and sidewalks. Several rounds of snow and two ice storms have emptied the shelves. One hardware store told reporters it hoped to have a new shipment available soon. Compounding the problem is the fact stores typically buy less salt near the end of winter so they’re not stuck with the product when spring and summer arrive.
