Tom Schneider, Director of the Calumet, Manitowoc, and Sheboygan County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) has announced that producers who suffered qualifying livestock losses due to the recent extreme cold could be eligible for benefits from the Livestock Indemnity Program. LIP compensates livestock producers for livestock death losses in excess of normal mortality due to an eligible adverse weather event. In addition, the program can also compensate producers for injured livestock that are sold for a reduced price due to an eligible event. Schneider stated in a release that “A notice of loss must be filed with FSA within 30 days of when the loss of livestock is apparent.” To apply, contact your County’s FSA Office.
