February is American Heart Month, and the American Heart Association is encouraging people to wear red today. This is a part of their Go Red for Women movement, to help raise awareness to how serious heart disease is. According to the AHA, heart disease is the number one killer of women, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined. Heart disease and strokes claim the lives of 1 out of 3 women, and the AHA is trying to change that. They say that around 80% of all cardiac events can be prevented through education and lifestyle changes. It is a good idea to check with your doctor to see if you may be at risk, and how you can lower your risk.
