The Appleton School Board is taking a look at some new options after it was determined that they were too quick it cite students with truancy. The truancy court had to be permanently shut down last month after complaints surfaced claiming the judge was bullying students, and that the Appleton School District may have referred students to the truancy program without due process. One example of this was a student missed school, but it was due to a medical condition and social anxiety. The Board is now considering hiring more people whose sole focus would be on attendance, and referring students to the truancy program. The full board will be gathering on Monday to discuss this and other proposals.
