A home in Kaukauna collapsed while fire crews battled a fire yesterday. When fire crews responded to the blaze in the 300 block of West 10th Street at around 11:30 AM, they reported seeing smoke and flames on the first and second floors of the structure. Crews began to battle the blaze, attacking the second floor flames from outside the building, while crews entered the building to douse the first floor flames. While the battle raged on, a portion of the second floor collapsed, casing the firefighters to evacuate the first floor. No one was injured in the incident, and the homeowner was not home at the time. The inferno was estimated to have caused around $100,000 in damages, and the home is considered a total loss. The fire was determined to have originated inĀ a closet space under a stairwell, and is believed to have been electrical in nature.
