Manitowoc Public Utilities has awarded a $3.1 million contract to Eaton Corporation of Beachwood, Ohio for installation of an electric Automated Infrastructure System. MPU Meter Services Manager Dan Salm.
Salm says one of the many benefits of AMI is its state-of-the art metering and communication technology permitting secure two-way remote communication with utility meters in the city.
The traditional “meter reader” will disappear however—
Development of internal data interfaces for billing is underway. Installation of 16 data collection points on utility poles–connection to MPU’s existing fiber optic plus the initial install and testing will take place early next year with completion expected by the end of 2019. Water meters will be replaced in a later phase.
