According to the Wisconsin Farm Bureau’s Marketbasket survey, which tracks the average price of 16 food items used to prepare one or more meals, Wisconsinites are getting their milk at bargain price. This past spring, a gallon of whole milk averaged $2.96, while shoppers reported an average cost of $2.63 per gallon this fall. That is an 11 percent decrease. The price decrease is hurting farmers all over including here on the lakeshore. In an attempt to help farmers and those in need, the 10 Gallon Challenge was created. For more information on the challenge, contact your local food pantry.
