110,000 residents of Wisconsin are living with Alzheimer’s disease. About 194,000 caregivers are involved and, it really takes a toll on those families. Manitowoc hosted a Walk to end Alzheimer’s Saturday morning at the YMCA. Kate Bieberitz is a committee member with the Manitowoc County Alzheimer’s Association.
Suzanne Koss, the Board Chair of the Greater Wisconsin Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, tells Seehafer News of the importance of such events like the one here over the weekend.
Koss, whose mother had a 5 year journey with the disease before passing away in 2006, said Alzheimer’s is gene driven and while some strides have been made there is no total cure available.
