
One man is dead after an officer involved shooting early Sunday morning in the city of Manitowoc.
At about 4:43 AM Sunday, A Manitowoc police officer responded to an activated fire alarm at the Northwinds apartment complex on S. 35th Street. While investigating the complaint, the police officer became involved in a confrontation with a male subject. Early indications are that that suspect was armed with a blunt instrument. As a result of that confrontation; the officer discharged his firearm killing the suspect who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to a press release from the Manitowoc Police Department, this incident is not related to a double homicide that happened in the city last week.
This investigation has now been turned over to the Department of Criminal Investigation per policy and state statute. The officer involved in this shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave which is standard department policy during this investigation.
