Village officials estimate a huge sinkhole in Wonewoc’s Legion Park is 200 feet wide and 20 feet deep. Flood water caused the problem which could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to repair. Yellow caution tape keeps people away from the soft dirt at the edge of the hole. Snow fences will be used as a safety barrier. The cave-in at the public park is near a camping area and a recreational field. Filling the sinkhole will likely have to wait until decisions are made on federal disaster funding.
