It’s that time of year again. Time to celebrate the strangest event in the history of Manitowoc, the crash landing of a piece of the Sputnik 4 spacecraft outside of the Rahr-West Art Museum, with the 11th Annual Sputnik Fest. We spoke with Greg Vadney, the Executive Director of the museum about how the festival came to be.
The fact that a piece of space debris landed where it did, is nothing short of phenomenal.
Another seldom talked about part of the Sputnik 4 story is what actually happened to the pieces that were recovered.
While the history surrounding the Sputnik crash is very real, but Greg says that the festival is far from serious.
Vandey told us that they have a very special guest coming to speak at this year’s Sputnik Fest.
We have been in contact with Dr. Trek, and will be talking to him over the phone sometime today. Be sure to check in tomorrow to see what he had to say. While the event is for the whole family, Greg tells us that Saturday would be the most fun for children.
Stop on out to the Rahr-West Art Museum at 610 North 8th Street in Manitowoc this Friday and Saturday to experience the one of a kind event that is Manitowoc’s Sputnik Fest.
