Local Health Officials are emphasizing the importance of staying safe as high temperatures and extreme humidity will dominate our weather at least through the weekend. Dr. David Augustine is a family medicine physician at Holy Family Memorial in Manitowoc.
Temperatures in the nineties combined humidity levels above 70 percent will push heat indices above 100 today and tonight—105 degrees Saturday—100 degrees tomorrow night before relenting a bit on Sunday, but still-remaining quite uncomfortable. Dr. Augustine says the young and elderly are especially susceptible to impacts from the heat.
Tips to stay safe include stay in air conditioning—limit outdoor activities to early morning and later evening hours—wear loose light- colored clothing—check on loved ones—never leave a person or pet in a parked car and stay properly hydrated.
And the local health practitioner adds that if you or someone you know start feeling overheated—weak—dizzy—nauseated or have muscle cramps it could be symptoms of heat illness.
