A Portage County judge has sentenced a man to 18 years in prison after he was convicted on a charge of second-degree intentional homicide. Prosecutors had told the court Kyle Engen killed a man near the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus in March 2016 when a drug deal went bad. Engen reportedly planned to sell 72-hundred dollars’ worth of marijuana to Deonta Lezine of Racine and some friends. Lezine’s group intended to steal the pot, they attacked Engen inside a car and he managed to get free. When the car took off, he shot at it, hitting Lezine in the head. Lezine died eight days later.
