Widespread severe thunderstorms have led Governor Scott Walker to declare a state of emergency for five counties in northern Wisconsin. The storms have swept the area with heavy rain, damaging winds and large hail. Residents have been evacuated and trees and power lines have been downed. Mudslides and flash flooding have damaged roads and businesses. Walker says he has called the National Guard to active duty to help. Flooding in northwestern Wisconsin is blamed for at least one death. Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, and Iron counties are included.
