The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association had already announced the decision in March — 2018 is the final year for a summer regular season for high school baseball. Wednesday was the last opening day as Germantown beat Oak Creek 9-2. The number of teams participating has slowly dwindled to fewer than 40. Oak Creek has been a perennial winner in summer baseball, but the school announced it is moving to the spring in 2019. Players with promise want to play on traveling teams in the summer.
