A Manitowoc man charged in a violent sexual assault has been denied a lower bail for the second time.
Last week, 52-year-old Kelvin Jones returned to court for a bail hearing as he and his legal counsel argued to get his $5,000 cash bail lowered.
However, Judge Mark Rohrer denied the bond motion, keeping Jones in custody as he faces charges of Second-Degree Sexual Assault with the Use of Force and Battery linked to an incident that occurred in July.
This is the second time in less than a month Jones has been denied a lower bail and comes after his bail was already lowered from $7,500 in August.
The 52-year-old is said to have brought home the victim after a date and performed nonconsensual sexual acts on her despite her pleading for him to stop.
He is then said to have physically harmed her in order to continue the sexual assault. He also admitted to police that the victim told him ‘no’ but continued to sexually assault her anyway.
Jones is no stranger to sexual violence, as he was also previously convicted of Third-Degree Sexual Assault in Manitowoc County in 2019.
He will now return to court on December 22nd for a scheduling conference.
