A battle between two heavyweights in Division III college football is set to have some hometown appeal this weekend.
The 4th-ranked UW-Whitewater Warhawks will travel to take on the 2nd-ranked UW-Platteville Pioneers tomorrow in the annual George Chryst Memorial Bowl.
The Warhawks have been powered to an impressive 8-0 record behind starting quarterback and Two Rivers High School alum, Justin Klinkner.
Klinkner has been nothing short of impressive this season, throwing for 1,708 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing over 67% of his passes.
Klinkner hasn’t done it all with his arm, however, as he has also accounted for 7 rushing touchdowns.
The former Raider’s abilities were on full display in last week’s 48-19 victory over rival UW-Oshkosh, where the junior signal caller went 26/36, throwing for 345 yards and two touchdowns while finding the end zone three times on just six carries.
The winner of tomorrow’s showdown in Platteville will move into firm control of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) and be a strong candidate to unseat Wheaton as the number one ranked team in all of Division III college football.
