The Dane County District Attorney’s Office is declining to file criminal charges in a hazing investigation at an unrecognized University of Wisconsin-Madison fraternity.
District Attorney Ismael Ozanne says prosecutors lacked sufficient evidence to prove misdemeanor hazing and disorderly conduct charges beyond a reasonable doubt.
The decision follows the September arrest of Alpha Epsilon Pi’s 20-year-old president and vice president after police discovered 30 pledges in the fraternity’s basement.
UW-Madison officials severed ties with the fraternity back in 2015, but national organization recognition allows the chapter to continue operating independently.
