Manitowoc Police are reminding everyone to be safe on Halloween.
The department says tonight, when kids are trick-or-treating, pay attention whether you are walking with a child from house to house or driving through the area, especially at night.
Krock recommends: “Carry a flashlight,” he stated. “Look before you cross the street. Always cross at the corner of the street. Using crosswalks if they are available.”
For drivers, Krock says to use extra caution because you don’t know if someone will cross a street without looking both ways.
It also goes without saying to watch your speed.
For kids getting candy, make sure you go only to houses with their lights on.
Krock adds that it’s also okay for parents to check the candy after kids are done.
“It definitely doesn’t hurt,” he remarked. “You hear stories (from) time to time of things happening. So, not something that happens often. But again, out of an abundance of caution, (it’s) definitely something parents can do.”
Krock added that Manitowoc Police will also be out and about keeping an eye on things tonight.
Krock noted, “I’m sure the officers will be giving extra attention to areas that do have a high concentration of trick-or-treaters.”
The American Red Cross also has more information for safe trick-or-treating. It can be found at redcross.org.
