Early voting numbers are surging across Wisconsin as voters head to the polls ahead of Tuesday’s election.
State officials report nearly 300,000 people have already cast in-person absentee ballots, marking a jump of nearly 100,000 compared to this point four years ago.
Total absentee returns, including mail-in ballots, have topped 575,000 statewide.
Southeastern Wisconsin is driving much of the turnout, led by Milwaukee County with 90,000 returned ballots and Waukesha County at 62,000.
Surrounding communities in Ozaukee, Washington, Racine, and Kenosha counties are also seeing higher early participation than in previous midterms.
