The School District of Janesville is getting federal disaster relief to help cover cleanup costs from devastating flooding earlier this year.
Federal officials approved the first phase of aid to reimburse the district for emergency safety and security measures.
However, two additional phases of funding remain under review, including a request to repair structural damage across district facilities.
The outcome could determine whether the heavily damaged Washington Elementary School reopens or closes permanently.
District leaders are also developing a long-term hazard mitigation plan for future disasters.
