Health officials in Dane County are issuing an overdose alert after responding to a sudden surge in emergency calls.
Public Health Madison and Dane County reported at least five overdose incidents in less than 24 hours earlier this week.
Authorities say several cases involved cocaine, but patients displayed symptoms consistent with opioid overdoses.
Officials urge anyone who uses drugs to test them for fentanyl, carry naloxone, and never use alone.
