The Two Rivers Public School District is trying to help students after the death of Payton Vertz.
In an update to parents, Superintendent Diane Johnson says students have expressed a range of emotions, including disbelief, fear, sadness, shock, and more.
She adds that these feelings are a natural response to loss, and the district recognizes that parents and community members may be experiencing some of the same emotions.
She adds that district counselors are available at Two Rivers High School to provide students with opportunities to talk individually or in small groups.
If a student is struggling, parents can reach out to Principal Timothy Engh to make sure a child receives the care and support they need.
Payton’s body was found in Seagull Marina in Two Rivers earlier this month.
Prosecutors have announced criminal charges against two men in his death.
