With nearly just a week left before Election Day, Wisconsin Democrats made a stop in Sheboygan along the campaign trail.
This weekend, Gubernatorial candidate David Crowley, his running mate for Lieutenant Governor, Sarah Godlewski, Attorney General Josh Kaul, 6th District hopeful Brad Smith, State Assemblyman Joe Sheehan, and others made their way to Uptown Social to rally Sheboyganites to get out and vote blue in November.
When Sheboygan’s representative in Madison, Assemblyman Sheehan, took the stage, he reiterated that the time for change is now.
“We need to take action like now,” Sheehan said. “And I am very confident that we are bringing Sheboygan home.”
He also reflected on his first term in office and explained how not having a Democratic majority in the State Assembly affected his work.
He asked those in attendance, “I submitted over 200 bills, and you know how many got out?”
In response, the crowd shouted out, “None?”
To which Assemblyman Sheehan said, “No, no, a whole bunch. Two.”
It was then time for AG Kaul to speak as he seeks reelection against Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney.
Kaul spoke on how he and his peers from other states are actively working to keep President Donald Trump in check.
“There have been massive tax cuts for some of the wealthiest Americans and for corporations. They’ve gotten rid of protections for our environment so fossil fuel companies can make more money,” Kaul explained. “I am proud to say that my administration has stood up to this administration over and over again. We’ve joined more than 70 lawsuits.”
Lieutenant Governor candidate Sarah Godlewski then took the microphone.
She looked back on Republican Gubernatorial candidate Tom Tiffany’s voting record while in Congress, criticizing the fact that he has walked in lockstep with the President, calling Tiffany a puppet for Trump.
She also used his own campaign slogan to do so.
Godlewski said, “When Donald Trump called and said let’s eliminate the Department of Education and let’s defund our public schools, Tom Tiffany said, ‘You betcha.’ And when Donald Trump called and said let’s start this manmade affordability crisis by putting tariffs on Canada or this senseless war with Iran, Tom Tiffany said, ‘You betcha.’”
County Executive Crowley then took over and echoed Godlewski’s remarks.
“He went to Washington, and he sold Wisconsin out. He went to go work for Donald Trump and the billionaires who are bankrolling his campaign today,” Crowley said emphatically. “I mean, the man has voted with Donald Trump 100% of the time, y’all, which is mind-boggling for me, because I love my wife. But she doesn’t agree with me 100% of the time.”
And to close, he gave voters a picture of what the future may look like with him as Governor.
“That’s what I plan to do as your next Governor, and what does that look like?” County Executive Crowley stated. “That looks like us lowering costs for families across this state. Making sure we can cap child care expenses at 7% of what families earn. Making sure we can lower your costs at the pump by getting rid of a nearly century-old law. And we are going to be able to expand healthcare in the State of Wisconsin to make sure nobody has to choose between seeing a doctor or paying their utility bills.”
This comes with just a week left before America hits the polls on Election Day on November 3rd.
Also on Saturday (October 24th), Crowley’s opponent Tom Tiffany was in the area as the campaign trail nears its end for both candidates.
