The deadline to get a license for one of Wisconsin’s most popular fishing seasons is rapidly approaching.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is reminding anglers to purchase their sturgeon spearing licenses before the deadline closes on October 31st.
All license holders must be at least 12 years old, and an unlimited number of licenses are available for Lake Winnebago.
However, only 500 will be available for the Upriver Tributaries.
On the purchasing of spearing licenses, the DNR explained, “Sturgeon spearing license sales help fund lake sturgeon management activities on the Winnebago System. These management activities help assure the Winnebago lake sturgeon population is one of the healthiest populations in the world that supports this unique harvest opportunity.”
Licenses can be purchased online via the DNR’s Go Wild system.
Sturgeon spearing season in Wisconsin will begin on February 13th.
