Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway is dropping out of the upcoming race for mayor, reversing her decision to seek a third term.
The city’s first openly gay mayor cited the heavy personal toll of public office and rising concerns over harassment aimed at local officials.
Rhodes-Conway says she made the choice weeks ago so other prospective candidates would have adequate time to enter the now-open seat.
She highlighted key achievements during her seven-year tenure, including transit expansion and major investments in housing and mental health care.
