The State of Wisconsin is celebrating the completion of an interstate project in Brown County.
On Thursday, Governor Tony Evers, members from WisDOT, and Brown County community leaders celebrated the completion of the new Interstate 41 and Southbridge Road interchange as well as an adjacent roadway project that’s part of the county’s South Bridge Connector project.
The new interchange connects I-41 with the connector project and will “bolster regional connectivity and improve access for residents, commuters, and businesses.”
According to the state, Brown County leaders have advocated for a new highway connection and the construction of a bridge across the Fox River in De Pere.
Through the state’s 2023 biennial budget, the county received $50 million in bonding to build the bridge to link De Pere, Ledgeview, and Green Bay.
Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach says local leaders are “deeply grateful to our federal and state partners for their support in incorporating the South Bridge Connector Project into the interstate system and providing the funding for this critical interchange.”
The full I-41 corridor project is scheduled for completion in 2030.
